Overview
The workshop is tailored to provide specialist surgeons with the tools and strategies to enhance the training of young surgeons in the operating theatre, with an emphasis on implementing EPAs. Participants will explore the principles of competency-based education, gaining skills in assessing surgical competence, teaching procedural techniques, and delivering effective feedback. By the end of the workshop, surgical educators will be equipped with practical strategies to integrate EPAs into their teaching, elevating the quality and impact of surgical education.
To participate in the hands-on part at the SCS Annual Meeting 2025 (Session 3), attendance of the Sessions 1 and 2 is mandatory.

Background
Initiated by the SIWF, post-graduate medical training is moving towards a competency-based educational model. The Swiss College of Surgeons (SCS) has supported this transition by developing a new 'Core Surgical Curriculum' (CSC) that includes a range of essential surgical competencies, defined as Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs). Rather than simply certifying the number of operations performed and the time spent in training, surgeons will now be required to verify the actual acquisition of surgical competencies. Implementing this concept will challenge surgical educators to further advance their didactic knowledge and skills.
